The significance of the temple is the "Guruthi Pooja", a kerala ritual conducted in the evening 8:45pm at the Keezhkkaavu shrine, performed to remove negative energies, evil forces and obstacles in devotees. Can perform with 3 vessels, 5 vessels, 7 vessels and 12 vessels.

Review : Chottanikkara Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy (Lakshmi Devi) in Chottanikkara, Ernakulam, Kerala.
Chottanikkara Temple is undoubtedly a powerful and spiritually significant place, attracting thousands of devotees seeking blessings and healing. The divine presence of Goddess Bhagavathy and the rituals performed here, especially the Guruthi Pooja, make it a unique and revered temple.
However, one aspect that I found disappointing is the way Theertham (holy water) and Chandanam (sandalwood paste) are distributed. In most temples, these sacred offerings are given to all devotees as a blessing, irrespective of any monetary contribution. But here, it seems that the quantity given depends on how much money you offer. This commercial approach takes away from the true essence of temple blessings, which should be accessible to everyone equally.
I strongly feel that such sacred offerings should be provided to every devotee with devotion and equality, rather than being treated as something to be bought. Hope the temple authorities consider this and make necessary changes for a better spiritual experience.
Key Highlights of Chottanikkara Temple:
Main Deity: Goddess Bhagavathy (worshipped as Mahalakshmi in the morning, Saraswati in the afternoon, and Durga in the evening).
Famous For: Believed to cure mental illnesses and possession by evil spirits.
Keezhu Kavu Temple: Located within the temple complex, dedicated to Bhadrakali, where special poojas like Guruthi Pooja are performed for exorcism and healing.
Makam Thozhal: A grand annual festival where the idol of the goddess is adorned beautifully, attracting thousands of devotees.
