Drass, also known as the 'Gateway to Ladakh,' is a town in the Kargil district of Ladakh, India. It is renowned as the second coldest inhabited place on earth after Oymyakon in Russia. Drass is a strategically important location, lying near the Line of Control (LOC) and serving as a crucial transit point for travelers heading to Ladakh. The town is surrounded by rugged mountains and features stark, breathtaking landscapes. It is also famous for the Drass War Memorial, built in honor of the soldiers who lost their lives during the Kargil War in 1999.
June to September (Summer months). The weather is relatively milder during these months, and the Zoji La pass is open, allowing access to Drass and Ladakh.

The nearest airport is Srinagar Airport (SXR), which is approximately 140 km away. From Srinagar, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Drass. The second nearest airport is Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport(IXH), which is approximately 230 km away. You can reach by taxi or bus from there.
Drass is accessible by road via the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH1). The highway is generally open from late May/early June to October/November, depending on snowfall. You can hire a taxi or take a bus from Srinagar or Kargil.
There is no direct railway connectivity to Drass. The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi (JAT), which is well-connected to major cities in India. From Jammu, you can take a bus or hire a taxi to Srinagar and then proceed to Drass.
